Film Clips is a creative task from the Creative Pictures Studios round of the 2020 MIT Mystery Hunt. It asked solvers to create a 1-3 minute trailer for a hypothetical movie about the Mystery Hunt.
Puzzle Elements[edit | edit source]
Tasks and Challenges - The puzzle asks solvers to create a theatrical trailer for a hypothetical Mystery Hunt: The Movie.
Physical Puzzle - After submitting said trailer, teams would receive the actual puzzle: an envelope full of transparencies.
Spatial Reasoning - The transparencies can be rotated and reflected. Easier if you have the physical transparencies on hand, but it's doable in an image editor.
Overlaying - The natural thing to do with transparencies? Stack them. There is only one way to do so without overlapping two dots. Each square will end up forming a letter.
Final Clue Phrase - The result is CONTAINER THAT THESE CAME IN, and one need look no further than the physical envelope for the answer.
