Language is the fourth section of the COCOA Test, displayed as several sentences.
Solve Path[edit | edit source]
The first part of this section displays two sentences. Considering the content of these sentences and their tendency to contain uncommon letters such as J, Q, and Z, it turns out that each sentence is almost pangramamatic, missing a single letter each. (This is reinforced by the instruction: "deduct a point if anything left out", where one letter is left out in each pangram.) The first sentence is missing an H, and the second sentence is missing an E. For the third sentence, it is self-describing, asking to "utter four rather familiar words" that end in the same letter. In fact, "utter", "four", "rather" and "familiar" all end with the letter R. Taking these together, we get HER, the answer.
Puzzle Elements[edit | edit source]
- Pangrams - Well, almost.
- Self-Reference - The third sentence describes an action that needs to be done on itself.
