Puzzle Elements[edit | edit source]

Cryptic Crossword - The puzzle is transparently identifiable as a cryptic crossword on a barred grid.

Hint in Flavortext - Very direct hints, the first part cluing the gimmick and the third cluing the extraction. The second does not appear to be relevant to the puzzle, but may be relevant to the answerthe answer of 🏬, as a place where one can spend a large amount of money.

Variety Cryptic - The clues, of course, are not solvable as they are—the definition is where it's supposed to be, but each clue cuts to the wordplay section of a different clue. 6AQuivering camel behind minute dwarf's wordplay, for instance, is easily identifiable as M + ELMAC*, but the definition of "Alien homeworld" is in 22A instead, while the definition in the clue ("dwarf") has its wordplay in 1D.

Initialization - The flavortext mentions "a message reading in clue order". Repositioning the wordplay to where it's supposed to be reveals this message among the first letters of the wordplay...

Bitmap - ..."SHADE EVERY SQUARE THAT'S GOT A LETTER FROM THE FIRST HALF OF THE ALPHABET". Doing this draws out the answer in the grid.
