Shinteki

Shinteki is a company specializing in creating puzzle hunt experiences and adventures as team-building exercises for corporate customers and private parties.

History[edit | edit source]

A few instances of The Game were run by team Just Passing Through - Jackpot [1], Shinteki: Aquarius, Shinteki: Untamed, the original Shinteki Decathlon,[2], and Shinteki Disneyland.[3] These events were similar to The Game in that teams were expected to traverse between locations using a van. The Jackpot Game lasted an entire weekend. However, the scope of later events was smaller, usually lasting within a period of 12 hours instead. Shinteki derives its name from "mental, physical, or psychological" in Japanese, and the company suggests that their events represent all three.[4]

Shinteki Decathlon[edit | edit source]

Shinteki ran a series of roughly annual public events between 2005 and 2015, known as the Shinteki Decathlon. As the name suggests, each event contained ten puzzle challenges to overcome. Some challenges combined physical feats with puzzling[5].

Shinteki Puzzle of the Month[edit | edit source]

Between August 2008 and December 2016, Shinteki ran an online puzzle of the month competition. Puzzles typically were released on the 15th of each month. Each month, solvers would receive points for solving the puzzles - 200 points before hints were released five days after release, and 150 points afterwards. Additionally, bonus points were awarded for top finishers, with the first solver gaining an additional 50 points, then the second solver gaining 49 points, and so on up to the 50th solver gaining an additional 1 point. Point totals then contributed towards a cumulative yearly leaderboard.
