Intercoastal Altercations is a puzzle hunt that has been held five times. It was first held in the late 1980's by NPL members Hudu and Trazom, simultaneously in two locations, New York and Berkeley. The hunt emulated the traditional Saturday NPL Extravaganza held at the annual NPL Convention.[1] The tradition was revived in 2002, held in six physical locations as well as being offered online as well. The most recent iteration of Intercoastal Altercations was held in 2011.
The name "Intercoastal Altercations" is a pair of words that are anagrams of each other, and also refers to how the event started as a cohosted extravaganza at both coasts of the United States.
