Puzzle hunts are events where teams compete to solve a series of puzzles with specific answers, often culminating in metapuzzles that utilize the answers of the previous puzzles. While scale may range from a single round with a few puzzles and a metapuzzle to the behemoth of over one hundred annual puzzles that is the MIT Mystery Hunt, the format tends to be somewhat similar regardless; solve puzzles, unlock more puzzles, solve more puzzles, unlock more puzzles..., finish hunt. Many hunts are serial in format; either occurring yearly or on another, often less consistent cycle. Others are one-offs, sometimes due to being created by first-time writers who haven't had time to write further iterations, but often for a range of other reasons.

The following is a list of puzzle hunts and franchises.
