The α-betical Order is a fully remote team that participates in the MIT Mystery Hunt and commonly fields smaller teams for other hunts as well.

History

The α-betical Order was formed in late 2020 to participate in the 2021 MIT Mystery Hunt under the name Is your king also your knight or is your king your king?, a reference to a moment from the last hunt some of the members had tried to solve. They continued using this method of picking a name based on a reference to the last hunt they did up until Teammate Hunt 2021. At that point, in an attempt to have a more unifying theme to their names, they used the name B Side Donks, an attempt to emulate the structure of "7th Beat Games," a reference to a video game company many of the members were in the community of. In their very next hunt, CMU Hunt Fall 2021, they used the name E-Mail Scams, establishing the naming scheme they still use today.

Naming Scheme

The team's naming scheme uses a two word phrase where the second word is a plural noun and the first word starts with a sounded out letter, which is separated from the rest of the word by a hyphen. For instance, their name for Silph Puzzle Hunt 2021 was L-ectric Detectives, read as "Electric Detectives." Their general name, The α-betical Order, is thus read as "The Alphabetical Order."
