The C@r@line Syzygy, often referred to as just Syzygy, is an open online team that participates in online hunts.
The team started in 2019 as a two-person archive solvethrough of MIT Mystery Hunt 2019 on the subreddit /r/MysteryHunt on Reddit. [1] In spite of their small team size and lack of experience, the Syzygy finished every puzzle by June of that year. In the remainder of 2019 and through much of 2020, the initial members of the Syzygy worked with members of other teams with no plans to reform as an independent team. During that time, they often registered for hunts with unrelated team names.
In late 2020, the C@r@line Syzygy began to solve online hunts independently of other teams again, beginning with Teammate Hunt. In 2021, the team formally started to solve under their original name again, became fully digital, and welcomed many new members.
The word "C@r@line" is interchangeably pronounced as "Caroline" or "Coraline", and the team frequently replaces 'o' and 'a' in its team names with @. When registering more than one team for a hunt, the word "Syzygy" usually is replaced with "Schism". In addition to representing the @ sign, the team's logo also references that many of the C@r@line Syzygy's members are associated with cats or dragons.
For every Mystery Hunt since 2019, the Syzygy has merged with a larger team. They merged with Palindrome in 2020, with TTBNL in 2021 and 2022, with TSBI in 2023, and with ECPG in 2024.
