Team To Be Named Later

Team To Be Named Later (often abbreviated to TTBNL) is a team that participates in the MIT Mystery Hunt. Formed from a core of members who often hunt in online hunts as plugh and a successor to Luck (which disbanded after writing the 2016 Mystery Hunt), the team's first hunt was in 2018. The team has placed in the top 10 every time. Additionally, some members of TTBNL were involved in creating Caltech Puzzle Hunt 2018.

History[edit | edit source]

After Luck ran MIT Mystery Hunt 2016, the team disbanded, with various members dispersing to Palindrome, Death and Mayhem, Left Out, and other teams. The core of Luck was left with about 10 people, which was too small to form a viable Mystery Hunt team, so in 2017 they decided to join Death and Mayhem that year, which won the 2017 hunt.[1] Some of the members were temporarily loaned to Death and Mayhem to help write their 2018 hunt, and the remainder formed Team To Be Named Later, which was originally a placeholder name but the tradition stuck. Each year, the name grows successively longer, with an additional "Team Formerly Known as" added on each time.

The initial team was composed of plugh, along with some people from Mathcamp and former Manic Sages, as well as several people from Caltech as well some additional former Luck members.[2] TTBNL is considered a relatively open team, among Mystery Hunt teams. The C@r@line Syzygy joined with TTBNL for the 2021 and 2022 Mystery Hunts.
